KINDER JOY OF MOVING TO SUPPORT SAVE THE CHILDREN'S MISSION TO CURB SUMMER LEARNING LOSS FOR UNDERSERVED KIDS

August 11, 2020
The Kinder Joy of Moving program has been added to Save the Children’s 2020 SummerBoost Camp™, which helps curb summer learning loss for children. Kinder Joy of Moving, based on a scientific method1 which aims to help children and their families be active, enjoy moving, and develop life skills in an engaging and joyful way, has been integrated into 16 Save the Children SummerBoost Camps in California and Tennessee. Participating children will receive virtual instruction and activity kits that promote at-home learning in STEM, reading, math and physical activity, while using activity cards that encourage family bonding through play and cognitive learning. The Kinder Joy of Moving kits also include equipment needed for children to stay active at home with their families.

“Ferrero believes a positive attitude toward movement will make today’s children better adults tomorrow,” said Paul Chibe, President and CEO, Ferrero North America. “We are inspired by Save the Children’s mission to create immediate and lasting change in children’s lives and are proud to partner with them to enrich and inspire children through Kinder Joy of Moving.”

Save the Children’s signature SummerBoost Camp is a national award-winning program, as recognized by the National Summer Learning Association. Most children lose some progress over a typical summer, but low-income children are most impacted. By fifth grade, summer learning loss can leave low-income students up to three years behind their more affluent peers.

Kinder conducted a pilot program with Save the Children in three camps in rural California last summer.

“At Save the Children, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic, we’re committed to ensuring children continue to learn and receive the nutrition they need to grow healthy and strong,” said Shane Garver, Senior Director of Save the Children’s U.S. Rural Education Programs. “We’re thrilled that this summer, we’ve been able to offer the Kinder Joy of Moving program to far more children and families across America who are participating in SummerBoost Camp in a remote, at-home setting, inspiring children and families alike to be active and celebrate the joy of moving together.”
